What is a SVP?
A "Sexually Violent Predator", or SVP,
is a sex offender who has been previously incarcerated,
subsequently diagnosed with a mental disorder,
and civilly committed to a mental hospital for
treatment. Following a court ordered release of
a SVP, community members may comment on the proposed
address or may suggest an alternative location
for placement within the County the SVP was ordered
to be released.
SVP's who are released from Atascadero
State Hospital under the "Conditional
Release Program" are monitored by Liberty
Healthcare. Liberty Healthcare is a private treatment
provider contracted by the State Department of
Mental Health.
